What is the WAY?

The We Are You Party is a global movement of people who are ready for a better world and an easier life.  We feel the current political parties have become too extreme, and for the past couple of decades we have been voting for the best of the worst.  We don’t feel heard, our interests are not being adequately represented, and frankly we don’t like the direction politics have taken.  We want to bring the people back into government, and in this day and age we know the technology is there to give the people a voice.  We believe in intelligent debate, rights to opinions, and the right of each individual to be heard by their government.  We are calling ourselves the WAY movement, because WAY stands for We Are YOU.  We believe the WAY is forward, as what we have been and are currently doing is not making anyone happy.

What We Believe (at least right now)

  1. Our current method of government has reached the end of its lifespan. Drastic changes need to be made at all levels of government.  It is time for governments to modernize and evolve.  Except maybe Norway who seem to get a lot of things right.
  2. The people best suited to make decisions for a country are the it’s citizens. It is hard to get behind a politician living in a multimillion dollar home driving a Maserati or other fancy car who is stating he is fighting for the poor.  How can he ever relate?  There is too much money in politics.  We believe the people we choose to lead and make decisions for us should be people who have experienced real Canadian life.  A single mother who has had to move 4 times in 3 years because of an abusive ex would, in our estimation, be a much better candidate to lead Housing than someone who has never had to find affordable housing in his/her life.
  3. We believe there is too much money in politics and government. Serving in government is tainted by the amount of personal gain.  How can there be objectivity if a government official is motivated by his/her own salary and benefits.
  4. We believe in increasing taxes for the wealthy. We also believe there needs be regulation of excess profits to ensure money goes back to the workers and business instead of hoarded as profits.
  5. We believe in a ‘good enough’ paradigm of life. We aim for a modest but comfortable living for ourselves and our families.  We want to see excess profits funneled back into the community somehow, whether building more schools, shelters, hospitals, water parks, community centres or increasing access to community programs.
  6. We believe in transparency especially with regard to government. We aren’t idiots, tell us the real reason why you are doing something so we can choose to support (or not) you.  We know what you feed us is nonsense.  Treat us like adults who actually have a vested interest in this countries welfare.  Then take the extra step of asking us how we feel about it.  With today’s technology, getting a feel for where the people are at on a given topic should not be hard.  We stand by our MIMS principle – Make It Make Sense.  That said however, we do recognize the need sovereign security so a little cloak and dagger is expected and understood.
  7. Our immigration system is broken. We need to put a hard stop in it, and re-jig on an emergency (and global) basis.  We desperately need to rebalance our population vs housing/social systems.  By continuing immigration as it stands, the government is hurting the citizens of the country.  We require immigration reform immediately.  We also believe immigrants need to integrate more fully into the countries they choose to live, instead of vice versa.  We feel  immigration and the right to live and work in Canada should be conditional upon the immigrants ability to integrate.  We propose that every immigrant must pass a written and spoken English (or whichever language is spoken in the country) proficiency test within 5 years of arrival.   Failure to do so within the 5 years would result in the immigrants right to live in Canada revoked and immediate deportation.  The second condition is that the immigrant must obey the laws in the country they are immigrating to.  Conviction, no matter status, is immediate deportation to country of origin.  That’s the deal, learn our language and live by our laws.  Failure to do so will result in deportation, period.
  8. We care about the environment and are interested in sustainability. We will not compromise the environment in return for profits.  We want to work globally to create global solutions.  We encourage the sharing of environmental ideas and technology.  For example, the Japanese have built an amazingly safe and fast train system.  Japan should contract their workers out to recreate these amazing rail systems all over the world.  North America certainly could use the help!  We believe through cooperation and the shared goal of improving life for everybody, the world can and will be a better place.
  9. We also believe that it is time to put a period behind some things, and start a new, more inclusive sentence. Our ancestors did some truly horrible things, to the indigenous in North America, to blacks and slavery, to Jews in the Holocaust.  The list is long.  And we should never forget what they did.  But, it is time to stop apologizing for it.  The white man isn’t going to magically pack and leave North America anymore than all the blacks in the United States or Europe are going to go back to Africa.  We need to figure out a way to move forward together without being constantly anchored by the past.  So we need to do one more collective round of ‘sorry’ and end the constant and repeated apologies.  We want to put our energy in building a bright future for everyone, together.  We have to stop focusing on our differences,  we need to start finding ways we can instead blend together into something new.  The way forward will no longer be based on us and them.  We believe a more integrative approach will help build a stronger future.
  10. We are on the fence in the sense that we do not all share an opinion with regard to LGBTQ+ issues. One thing we do agree on is that everyone has a right to happiness, as long as it isn’t at the expense of someone else’s.  The discussion to this regard is ongoing, and we welcome all new voices.
  11. We are 420 friendly, but hard against addictive and manufactured drugs. While we agree addiction is a medical problem, we also know from personal experience that staying in it is a choice.  It is a hard choice for sure, but it is a choice, as evidenced by every recovering addict.  As such, we do not support services that support those who choose to remain in addiction.  We will not offer safe injection sites, housing or emergency care for those in addiction.  Yes, they will die.  That is their choice.  We will not facilitate their continued demise while they choose to keep using.  Drugs are bad, and drugs kill.  This is no secret, and we are going to treat every person over 16 who chooses to use drugs as the adults they are and make them accountable for their actions.  If they choose to continue to use drugs and end up in a dark alley wet and cold, it is on them, period.  If they die, they die.  Drug use has severe consequences, the addicts current co-dependent relationship with the government will be over.  HOWEVER if the individual in addiction wants to make a different choice, we believe immediate action and support should be provided.  We will provide a 24 hour number anyone in addiction can call for help making a different choice.  Within hours, the individual will be picked up, bathed, fed and safely housed.  Every single support possible will be provided – nutritional, medical, psychological, physical.  There will be a system where the individual is supported for years, provided counselling and training/education in a field of their choice until they are ready to be on their own safely.  We want to take all the money currently spent on supporting addiction, and repurpose it to supporting recovery.  We believe in accountability for one’s actions, and believe it is time to treat those in addiction like the adults they are.   Again, we like the MIMS principle, and to use this makes sense.

So, what is it we do you ask?  Right now not much.  A lot of listening, watching, deliberating, talking, typing.  We are grassroots, and hope that we will blossom into fields of gold.  We are the people, and we are going to make noise wherever we can.  Perhaps in time we will effect some real change.  We welcome anyone who decides they want to have a voice in the way things are being done.  All of the above text is how we feel today at this moment.  We believe in dynamic thoughts and principles, not necessarily static.  As such, we want people who agree AND disagree with us.  We are willing to talk about it.  Want to join?  Have something to say? Feel free to contact us!
